The date of the fishing trip:

September 2021

Location:

Chocolay River, Skandia, Michigan

Target Fish:

Brown Trout

Fishing Style:

Freshwater, BFS (Bait Finesse System)

Tackle Information:

Headwaters are easy to access where I live, taken for granted by many born and raised in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. In my youth, these small headwater streams were often the destination of a short bike ride. The fish I caught were small and often I would take my catches home, perhaps to validate to others, my ability to catch fish.

As I grew older, I gained knowledge and skills every time I went fishing. Every fish I caught, or didn’t catch, taught me a valuable lesson. I learned at an early age that success can easily lull anglers into a state of complacency. Avoiding the thinking traps that can limit growth, I analyzed factors regarding my technique, tactics and of course, tackle.

Controlling the variables has been my mantra when it comes to fishing. Using “the right tool for the right job” such as the VARIVAS Super Trout Advanced Bush Trail line allows me to greatly reduce the chance of line breaking from fishing the wild, abrasive waters I fish. The orange color aids with casting via increased visibility. These features allow me to have more confidence casting into heavily wooded areas that most anglers avoid, thus leading to more fish.

The irony of catching my Personal Best (PB), brown trout in the very same headwaters where my passion for fishing started AND where the trout’s life started, casts an eerie reminder of how basic humans truly are in the ever-growing complexities we create. As simple as trout heading upstream to where they are born, we to tend to go back to where it all started.

I share details and findings, based on my experience, about the VARIVAS Bush Trail monofilament line in the above review video I did a while back.  I hope you find it helpful.
