Here’s a memorable bow from our last trip to the Sierra Nevada mountains on October 30, 2021.
Our session was winding down. We had just a few minutes left.
Well, actually, we were already late. And had companions waiting on us, behind the scene. Just one more cast. Well, we were already on our 6th or 7th last cast.
Suddenly this big guy gulped the FAB mini jig and made a run perpendicular to the shore, nearing some downed trees! Thinking that one of our companions had snagged my line, I yelled, ” STOP! Anyone got my line?”
As soon as I yelled, the line quickly straightened out, apparently freed from whatever it had snagged.
We dodged that bullet and the fight continued.
“It’s a good one,” yelled my buddy Chris, as he saw the fish swirl right in front of him.
At that point, the fish is around a point and not visible to us.
The fish does a 180° and heads back towards us. We slowly recoup all the line the big fella had so expertly taken. A few minutes later and some back and forth, the big guy is at the net!
Some cheering, high fives, a few photos and a few minutes later, we had the lunker swimming away.
Was it worth the extra casts? Absolutely!
Did we get in a bit of trouble with our waiting companions? Most definitely!
Truth is, we’d do it all over again, if given the chance.
Between the four of us we had over 23+ fish in less than 2 hrs of fishing, including the hike in.
If we had more time, there is no doubt we would have found a lot more takers.
We’re already looking forward to next year; and more of the same!
