Since starting direct-to-customer sales of VARIVAS fishing line here in the United States, the topic of “Finesse Fishing” comes up frequently in conversations between our U.S. office staff and HQ staff across the ocean in Japan.
I suppose so-called finesse fishing in America is not quite “finesse-enough” compare to the Japanese standard. Nonetheless, I always defend the honor of fellow Americans by saying, “So what! We’ve got bigger fish to fry here in America!”
However, whether we want to admit it or not, one can always learn from others, right?
A learning moment came for me when I stumbled across a TV program produced by Japan’s NHK broadcasting company (similar to PBS in the US or BBC in the UK).
I really enjoyed watching this program. It’s only 15 minutes long with no ads.
Take a look for yourself. This video provides a glimpse of just how serious the Japanese are about finesse fishing.
The video is titled “Fishing Crazy: In Pursuit of the Smallest Catch.”
I think you will enjoy it.
Don’t just take my word for it; check it out with your own two eyes.

I frequently see this same fundamental philosophy of pursuing perfection, precision and passion at VARIVAS when it comes to how we create our products.
