Long story short, I made the switch and WOW! Now I’m catching TROUT!
For 30+ years I used to target only bass. Mainly from farm ponds and small lakes. As time went on, I started targeting Bluegill and Crappie; using old techniques and low-cost line. For the past 3 years I was really trying to expand my freshwater fishing resume. But to no avail. I realized I was missing a lot of bites, couldn’t feel the bottom; and wasn’t catching anything other than bass. Well, after 30 plus years of fishing with all types of lines, I made the switch!
I spoke with a buddy who said, “Try Varivas.” I’m now catching fish I never even thought about — TROUT!
I Bait Finesse System (BFS) fish a lot and this major change helps me catch lots of trout now. The first thing I noticed was the diameter of this line is a lot smaller in size compared to others I used, enabling me to add more lines to a shallow spool. I’m pretty new to trout fishing. With trout, if they can see the line, they definitely will turn away. Although a thin diameter line plays a major role, the fact that the VARIVAS Area Master Limited line is feather-light makes the line fall soft on the water without any visible vibration.
Each type of line has its own purpose. For example, I like to use 6 lb, Area Master Limited Super Premium PE x4 in orange and black Mark Edition. The marking lines let me know exactly how much line is out. When a fish bites, if I miss it, I count down the line markers as I’m reeling in to ensure I gauge the distance right when hitting the target area again.
I pair this line with a fluorocarbon Trout Shock Leader, between 2-4 lb test. I can feel every slight bump and the difference from fish to grass to stumps. I can now fully read an area and also tell what type of fish I’m fighting before it comes to the surface. VARIVAS fluorocarbon leaders come on 30m spools and include a color code band that lets me know which one I’m grabbing on the fly without having to pull them apart. Yes, these compact fluorocarbon leader spools also attach to each other.
If there’s a cheat code to fishing, this company definitely has it!
This is why I made the switch. I’ve now got ALL my reels spooled with VARIVAS!!
